Russia bans the import of some commodities

According to Russian customs reports, from March 1, 2019, any tobacco products for sale can only be imported into Russia from abroad with a special chip (that is, RFID electronic identification). The chip is specifically used for product identification. This will increase the additional costs of exporting companies.

According to the list of commodities published in April 2018, in addition to tobacco products, the import restrictions in 2019 also include shoes, as well as perfumes, clothing and other personal items.

Starting from July 1, 2019, shoes without chips cannot be imported, and from December 1, clothing, bedding, perfumes, tires, cameras and flashlights, and other commodities are prohibited from being imported into Russia without chips.

According to the "Russian Federation State Trade Management Law", the Russian government promulgated government order No. 792-р on April 28, 2018, to implement electronic identification (RFID) mandatory label management on ten types of goods such as shoes and coats. The government order will take effect on January 1, 2019.

The Russian government pointed out that the mandatory label management commodity list takes into account the particularity of market conditions and the conditions of commodity circulation in related markets, and should reduce the circulation of counterfeit products in Russia. As of now, Russia has implemented label management for fur products in January 2016 and medicines in August 2016. Among them, the drug labeling experiment was extended to the end of this year.
